Life of a modern person is literally permeated with high technology. Today it is difficult to imagine our world without a mobile phone or computer, smart cards and many other electronic devices that have become an integral part of our everyday life, but were absolutely incredible things just a couple of decades ago. All of this was made possible by creation of integrated circuit and rapid progress of microelectronics.

IC or microchip form the basis of any electronic product, and microelectronics is fundamental for the development of high technologies. Technological level of a country is determined by the level of development of its microelectronics, so countries seeking innovative revival are actively developing their own resource base for components production. Russia is not aloof from the processes. In recent years, concrete actions to promote the development of high technologies were taken, which forces government and business authorities to seek cooperative ways of reviving Russia in the area of knowledge economy.

JSC Mikron — the largest Russian producer — as it is seemly for the leader, was one of the first who has set upon to solve this task. In December 2007, the company started production of chips with 0.18 micron topological level; we also mastered full cycle of smart cards production. Owing to this, 30 million people each month use our products, among which are 3.5 million SIM cards for mobile phones and more than 20 million RFID fare cards.

In the coming years our company plans to continue improving its technological level and place itself to the world forefront with 65-45 nanometers technology production (our nearest plans). This step is aimed not only to diversify product lines of our business, but it will also inevitably induce formation of innovation cluster around Mikron, because microelectronics is known to have multiplicative effect with one working place generating up to 10 jobs in related industries.
